Motivated by climate survey findings and racial bias incidents on a Midwestern, Jesuit, Catholic
university campus, the Institutional Diversity and Inclusion Office and Center for Teaching Excellence began a journey to strengthen faculty competencies related to inclusive teaching. This case study provides background on the need for training, an overview of the Diversity and Inclusive Teaching Academy developed, challenges presented during planning and implementation processes, and implications for faculty development. Evaluation results demonstrate the importance of modeling sound pedagogical practices, providing challenging and demanding content that stretches understanding of key issues, and fostering interdisciplinary communities of learners in supportive environments.
